New Year’s resolutions for your dog
Every year we all struggle with what our New Year’s resolutions will be. Eating better, working out and losing weight are the most popular ones. But have you thought about what your New Year’s resolutions are for your dog?
I have never made resolutions for my dog before. But, as I was thinking about it, doesn’t it make sense? Setting some resolutions for our pups can, in a funny way, help us keep our own resolutions.
I’m going to walk my dog more.
I think most of us would admit we don’t walk our dogs enough. Most dogs need a walk of at least an hour a day. All dogs could use more exercise and would love to spend that extra time with you. Bonus for you: If one of your resolutions is to get in shape or lose weight, this is a two-for-one. Walking your dog will get you some of the exercise you need, too!
I’m going to play with my dog more.
To truly be exercised, a dog needs to drain his mental tank as well as his physical tank. Playing fetch with him or, if he is a particularly smart dog, doing puzzles with him will help tire him out. And again, he will love spending time with you. Taking those extra few minutes a day will warm your heart. Bonus for you: With both his mental and physical tanks drained for the day, he will be tired out enough to sleep all night, while you can attend that dinner party or night out without feeling guilty because your pooch is at home snoozing the night away.
I’m going to find more dog-friendly things to do.
You know how your dog loves to hang out with you? How he’ll jump in the car and go with you anywhere? Look for dog-friendly events to take him to, like yoga with your dog, organized walks to raise money for needy causes, breed-specific meet-ups, or parties where your dog is welcome. Your dog will love to go along and hang out with you for the day. (Don’t forget to bring a supply of poop bags with you!) Bonus for you: You get the chance to improve your social life and meet other dog lovers just like you. You never know with whom you might click!
It’s funny how creating New Year’s resolutions for our dogs can help us create and keep some New Year’s resolutions of our own. How much easier is it to follow through when you have a partner by your side helping you along the way? Life with a partner. That’s how it’s meant to be - someone by your side thorough thick and thin. Let your dog be your partner, and have a Dog Gone Good Time!
Have a Dog Gone Great Day!
