Be Like a Dog, Show Some Unconditional Love This Holiday Season
I’ve talked before about the unconditional love we receive from our dogs. About how quick they are to forgive. I think these are lessons that we need to be reminded of regularly and especially ring true at this time of year.
With so many dogs coming through our doors at Camp Bow Wow, I get my reminders of this all day every day. Seeing them, always happy, always loving, no matter what. And still it is hard for me to remember and practice.
Love is so important in our lives. From the book “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman (if you haven’t read this book, you NEED to … it will change your life.), “Psychologists have concluded that the need to feel loved is a primary human emotional need. For love, we will climb mountains, cross seas, traverse desert sands, and endure untold hardships. Without love, mountains become unclimbable, seas uncrossable deserts unbearable, and hardships our plight in life.” If we know what love feels like, the strength in it, and what it can do, why then is it sometimes so hard to show?
Whether it be your troubled marriage, anger with a best friend, or disappointment in your family, know that you can change it with love. Know that investing even minutes a day in that troubled relationship will change your loved one’s world and yours too.
Animals come into our lives as gifts from God, for companionship, to teach us, and to heal us. Let us learn from them to love unconditionally and forgive. We often take each other for granted. This holiday season, try repairing a broken relationship. Try showing someone that you love them, unconditionally.
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Forgive often.
Have a Dog Gone GREAT Christmas!
