Raue Center event to 'focus' on youth art

The Raue Center for the Arts will celebrate talented youth at Focus Cultural Youth Day on Aug. 23 from 12-4 p.m.
The event will combine presentations of visual arts, fashion design and performing arts into an afternoon exhibition of the talents of those 18 and younger in the area.
Interested local artists have until Aug. 7 to submit their work for consideration for Focus Cultural Youth Day. Visual artists may submit up to two pieces of their original artwork for consideration. One item will be chosen and must be available for display.
Performing acts can submit a brief description of a 4-minute or less stand-alone act. For information on the application process, contact Kate Wilford, Raue Center general manager, 815-356-9010, ext 10.
Connie Perez, owner of Aesthetics Creations in downtown Crystal Lake, is overseeing the Project Raueway fashion show portion of the event. Perez encourages young designers in her youth fashion design classes. As part of this summer’s fashion camp, the students, who range from kindergarteners to high schoolers, will be creating original designs inspired by local businesses. Local businesses also tie in as places to purchase tickets to the event. Tickets to the event are $10 and can be purchased from participating businesses in downtown Crystal Lake, which can be identified by a yellow star in the window. Funds raised from the event will go into an account to support next year’s event.
