If your holiday weekend isn't already booked with family festivities and friendly barbeques, check out some of the local options happening this Labor Day long weekend.
Richmond is hosting its weekly Cruise Night on Friday, Sept. 4. Take a drive to Richmond, at Route 12 and half-mile north of Route 173, to see a bunch of cars as well as food and DJ entertainment.
All weekend you can stop by Sunset Park in Lake in the Hills for its annual Sunset Festival. Among the festivities at this free festival, is Melon Propellin' on Saturday, Sept. 5. This year the festival will have more than five catapults competing in the Melon Propellin' contest, including a special guest exhibition by the as-seen-on-TV prowess of The ACME Catapult. If you're already in the fall spirit (and it's not hard with this week of fall-ish temperatures), check out Homestead Orchard in Woodstock. As featured in McHenry County Magazine's September issue, the orchard has both fresh-picked and U-Pick options. According to their Web site (www.homesteadorchard.net), they're picking Early Blaze, Dutchess and McIntosh apples and Friday at noon they will resume U-Pick Red Raspberries. They recommend calling before you may the trip to confirm availability, 815-338-7443.
